I am a Cantonese speaking Canadian. I found there is little coverage of BC Conservative policy in Chinese media, not in Mandarin nor Cantonese. Chinese has a large population in some regions. Hope your policy can be reached by Chinese. We are concerned with crime, tax, drugs, employment and housing. What is BC Conservative policy in these issues?

I digress that in a shelter, they need rules. Most that are homeless usually have very little self-respect, something as simple as making your bed every day has been proven to help improve your approach to the day. A militray camp is what i believe is the answer. Discipline, respect, and hard work will help, not the handout, victim mentality supported by B.C government!

Lots of people with opinions who don't know what its really like. Shelters are generally far worse than the streets for safety, crime, and certain types of assault. Not to mention they are all designed to either drive people away, or make them conform to whoever runs the shelter's expectations, often religion based. They SOUND better than being on the street, but generally are NOT, except for a few people. Simple fact is society wants the homeless out of sight and invisible, they don't care AT ALL about actually helping them. The state of the problem today shows how little we care. Try getting drug treatment without insurance before you go talking shit about homeless people wanting to remain homeless...

Shelters want you to work and put aside money so you can leave, then they turn around and say you can't work past 7 or 8pm. If you can only find a night or evening shift they instantly play uno reverse and say well you can't have a bed if you're out past curfew working nights.. Out of 3 shifts available they only allow you to be working during the day.. That cuts their job prospects by 2/3.... That's if they even give you a bed... Shelters in my area have what is called overflow... where you're expected to sleep in a chair.. laying on the floor is not allowed. the fastest and easiest way to get congestive heart failure is to be forced to sleep in a chair sitting upright for long periods of time.. there's no coming back from congestive heart failure... it slowly kills you over time... There is also the issue of safety in a shelter. Too many people in close proximity and some of those people should be in mental health facilities. Those people causing problems due to mental illness they refuse to treat only get booted from the shelter after a violent assault on someone else, not before, when they can see it coming by their behavior from a mile away..
